They understand their mission as Methodists is to both teach the gospel and to live the gospel in the poorer communities. Our church is currently "partnering" with the newest of the 14 Nicaraguan congregations. They are located in a poor barrio of Managua called Villa Roma. Along with sending special gifts to the children and youth, we are currently raising money to help them buy land and begin construction on a church building so they will no longer have to worship in a small home.Christmas in Action - We participate each year by working at a home during Christmas In Action weekend which provides building repairs and maintenance for low-income homeowners in the Enid area.Youth Summer Serve - Summer Serve is our weekly youth summer service project. All participants receive a free youth group shirt and a free meal! Our service activities include:•The YWCA - activities with children and work in the clothing closet•Our Daily Bread - serve the homeless and the hungry•The Commons - special youth choir performance and visit with the elderlyBrazilian missionaries - For over 10 years now we have had a covenant relationship with Gordon and Teca Greathouse, missionaries through the United Methodist Board of Global Ministries. They live in Belo Horizonte, Brazil's third largest city. Over the years they have developed and maintained two community centers which promote self-esteem through self-help projects in which people from slum areas gain skills to become more economically independent. During the last few years, the community center has worked with Habitat for Humanity building low-cost, two-bedroom homes. They are currently working with the bishop of the area to develop a new urban ministry program for the region which will develop and implement a common strategy of response both in terms of evangelism as well as social action.Upcoming Mission TripsUMCOR DepotBaldwin, LAApril 28 - May 5Application due Feb. 26Click here for more info.Tornado Relief TeamPiedmont, OKApril 19-21Click here for more info.Volunteers In Missions (VIM)Click on the PDF icon toopen the forms neededbefore going on a VIM trip.
